About us

We are Roberta and Virgilio — the mind and the soul behind Il Tartufaio coi Baffi. Virgilio is a four-year-old Drahthaar, a remarkable working dog trained in the detection of poisoned bait and toxic substances, playing a vital role in protecting wildlife and other animals. When he's not on duty, he devotes himself to a passion he truly loves: truffle hunting in the beautiful forests of Piedmont. Roberta is a certified ENCI dog trainer (Section 1 – agility, companion, and sport dogs; Section 3 – hunting dogs). With a master’s degree in pedagogy, psychology, and ethology, she has dedicated her life to the study of animal behavior, focusing especially on the canine sense of smell.

Roberta is an internationally recognized dog trainer, having trained and worked with K9 detection units across Europe and the United States, specializing in the search for narcotics, explosives, poisons, and protected species. In recent years, she has chosen to channel her deep knowledge and experience into the training of high-level truffle dogs, offering both training programs and fully trained dogs for sale. Together, we invite you to discover the world of truffles through the eyes — and the nose — of a true expert.

The project Il Tartufaio coi Baffi is based at the Saint Hubert Farm, owned by Roberta, located in the municipality of Cantalupo Ligure in the province of Alessandria. It occupies a strategic position near the borders of Alessandria, Genoa, Pavia, and Piacenza—just over an hour from Milan.
